| Expressive Arts Workshops, with Jon Oelrichs The Workshops   A Series of eight Thursday evenings starting Feb 19 7:30-9:30 p.m. $195 Watercolour has been given a bad rap! Stereotypically viewed as a lesser medium and the choice of hobbyists it is often summarily dismissed. In fact some great artists have done amazing things with watercolour. This workshop is an opportunity to reframe the way we look at and approach working with watercolour. Each class we will look at, think about, discuss and most importantly assume and play with the approach of a different artist. We will attempt to stand on the shoulders of giants and see what we can steal for ourselves! In the interest of finding our own voices and injecting some unexpected imagery into our work we may also employ some expressive arts-based explorations. The emphasis will be on play, welcoming the new, the fresh and the surprising and on acceptance of whatever visits with us. Technical mastery can come in its own time, we won't get snagged on technique. Introduction to Expressive Arts A one day workshop Sunday March 8 9:30- 4:30 $60 A great way to start your exploration of the Expressive Arts, access your creativity and use the arts to find your voice. After taking some time to get to know each other, create a safe ambient, and get an overview of Expressive Arts we will get right to it and start making art! We will experiment with different art forms including sound, paint, clay modeling and poetry. Images that appear in one form will get transferred to others. The emphasis will be on play, experimentation and welcoming the muse however it visits. Some time will be taken at the end of the day to engage with and make meaning of the images Expressive Painting A weekend workshop running Sat Apr 18 and Sun Apr 19 9:30- 4:30 $150 Experience the freedom of expression that comes when you paint intuitively. Two whole days of moving paint around without fear of judgement or pressure to produce! Spontaneity and creativity are interwoven and encouraged in an ambient of acceptance and creativity. Painting will be the focus with a supporting cast of other art forms. The intent is to invite imagery that is fresh and unfamiliar and to work with it in depth. We will paint in tempra on large sheets of paper. Pastels and charcoal will also be available. Pleasure in the moment, and fresh openings to the new will be most highly valued. If you already know that art making is for you and are looking for a way to develop authentic voice, get looser, free up your creativity, get unstuck or simply have some fun exploring arts modalities which are less familiar to you then you'll probably enjoy this program. We will work intensely with found images and move them from paint to sound to movement to poetry and into modalities that are new and stimulating.
