Expressive
Arts Workshops, with Jon Oelrichs Overview and Schedule
The
intent of these workshops is to explore the making of art as a way of
finding fresh eyes and ears. Art making, as a way of relating to
the self and the world, is used to discover openings to the
new. Each
workshop starts with the creation of a safe climate for exploration. My
studio space is designed with that in mind. Entering a space dedicated
to art and the realm of the imaginary is like stepping into a
reality
of acceptance and safety. Understanding that the images which
come in the making of art are the product of the imagination not of the
everyday world, reduces fear of negative judgement and gives permission
to explore the images wherever they lead.
The Expressive Arts involve all art forms and these workshops will use painting, music, movement, poetry, clay modeling and
other forms of artistic expression. Each form uses a different mix and
balance of sensory involvement. Sight, hearing, tactile and motor
senses are all called into play and bring an enriched
connection to the self and the world. Heightening the senses and
freeing the imagination opens up fresh views and new possibilities.

 I
am a visual artist working as a painter and maker of giant puppets. I
also play the saxophone and enjoy weaving different art forms together. I
have a graduate degree as an Expressive Arts Therapist, and have worked
in management development and organization development in the
private sector. All of these experiences inform my approach to leading
these workshops.
